How to get to Wroclaw

The MEPS 2015 conference will take place in Wrocław (Poland) on the main Campus of the Wrocław University of Technology (WUT) - Politechnika Wrocławska. The main Campus of WUT is located in the Wrocław city center. The opening ceremony as well as technical sessions will be held in Congress Center of WUT, which is located in the building D-20 of Faculty of Electrical Engineering - Wydział Elektryczny. General information

Wrocław is the largest city in the western part of Poland, a major hub in Polish and central European transport network. The city is served by an internartional airport. You can choose the low-cost airlines, operating from several destinations: Warsaw, Alicante, Barcelona, Berlin, Bologne, Burgas, Bristol, Brussels, Cork, Doncaster Sheffield, Dortmund, Dublin, Dusseldorf, East Midlands, Eindhoven, Forli, Frankfurt Hahn, Frankfurt am Main, Glasgow, Liverpool, London, Malaga, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome, Shannon, also LOT, Lufthansa and Scandinavian Airlines (Copenhagen) are offering their flights to Wrocław.

  • Wrocław has good connection with Dresden, the car-trip should take less than 3 hours, because of the European route E40 (A4 in Poland), which also connects Wrocław with Katowice and the large international airport, with Kraków, a city famous for its monuments and history, and the east of Poland.
  • There are about 10 daily train departures to Warsaw (travel time is 5-6 hours), several trains a day go to Poznań (2,5 hour), Warsaw (4 hours) and Kraków (4 hours). International connections to Berlin (4-5 hours), Prague (6,5 hours), Budapest (10 hours) and Wien (8 hours) are also available. Tickets are sold in the ticket offices in the Wrocław Główny, Main Station. You can also buy it online.
  • Bus is one of better ways to travel from Berlin, Prague and major polish cities to Wrocław. PolskiBus operates routes to the places mentioned above, tickets are available online. International coach network. Eurolines, also operates to Wrocław. The bus station, PKS Centrum, is located next to main train station. The trip from Berlin should take about 4,5 hours.

How to get to the University Campus?

 

by Air: Wrocław Nicolaus Copernicus Airport (IATA: WRO)

By Plane

Direct air connections with Wrocław are available from many European cities. Timetable can be checked here.

From the Wrocław Airport you can reach the Conference venue, which is located in the city centre, either by taxi or by public transportation:

  • by Taxi: Taxis are available directly outside the Departures and Arrivals halls of the airport. A taxi ride should take 30-40 minutes and the price is around 15-20 EUR. You can pay in Polish currency (zloty) or also in EUR or USD. In some taxies it is possible to pay with a card. More info here.
  • by Bus: The bus no. 406 (406 on mobi.wroclaw.pl) in the direction of the Main Railway operates every 20-30 minutes. The entire journey takes approximately 30 minutes (depending on the traffic). Get off the bus at its last stop (near to Main Railway - PKP Wrocław Główny), afterwards take the bus no. 145, 146 or 149 (each bus is departing every 15 minutes). Get off the bus at the 5th bus stop (Plac Grunwaldzki / Grunwaldzki Square).
    Tickets can be purchased at selected bus stops or inside the bus. Payments in mobile ticket vending machines can only be made by cards.

by Train - Main Railway

By Train

Wrocław can be reached by rail using one of many connections from all over Europe. The travel can be planned by means of the route planner: rozklad-pkp.pl/bin/query.exe/en. You may buy train tickets on-line here.

From the Main Railway - PKP Wrocław Główny you can reach the congress venue either by taxi or by public transportation:

  • by Taxi: Taxis are available directly outside the Main Railway. A taxi ride should take 10-15 minutes and the price is around 15 EUR.
  • by Bus: Take the bus no. 145, 146 or 149 (see buses on mobi.wroclaw.pl) (each bus is departing every 15 minutes). Get off the bus at the 5th bus stop (Plac Grunwaldzki/Grunwaldzki Square). The Main Bus Station, Polbus-PKS Centrum, is located next to Main Railway Station, so to reach the Conference venue please follow instruction as given for "by Train - Main Railway" above.

By Car

There are several domestic and international routes crossing Wrocław: roads no. A4, A8, E40, E67, E261, 5, and 94. In Bielany Wrocławskie, in the direct vicinity of the city boundaries, there is a hub constituting a junction of motorway A4, E40 and roads no. 5, 35, 98 and E261. Since 2011, you may also travel along the Wroclaw Motorway Ring Road – A8 (Autostradowa Obwodnica Wrocławia - AOW).
When arriving Wrocław, you need to remember about paid parking zones (more info).

At Conference Venue (buiding D-20) there are two open and free parkings for Wrocław Universiy of Technology visitors (both open from 8:00 to 20:00):

Public transport in Wrocław

Public Transport

There are over 60 day bus lines and a dozen or so night bus line in Wroclaw. There are also over 20 tram lines here.

Day buses and trams travel on working days usually from 5.00 to 23.00 and on weekends and (bank) holidays from 6.00 to 22.00. Night buses travel from 23.30 to 5.00 and meet at the Polbus-PKS Main Bus Station every 30 minutes and then go to all parts of the city. More info on public transport in Wrocław:

Weather

Wroclaw, Poland is at 51°6'N, 16°53'E, 121 m (397 ft).
Wroclaw has a marine west coast climate that is mild with no dry season, warm summers. Offering a moderate climate with no real temperature extremes, the weather in Wroclaw combines elements from both eastern and western Europe. The summer climate in Wroclaw is warm, pleasant and at times even a little hot. Wrocław is one of the warmer cities in Poland. Lying in the Silesian Lowlands between Trzebnickie Hills and the Sudetes, the mean annual temperature is 9.8 °C (50 °F). The coldest month is January (average temperature −0.5 °C), with snow being common in winter, and the warmest is July (average temperature 19.9 °C).
